- Calling shareware a 'blight upon humanity' is a little tough on
- shareware authors, isn't it? I don't know many other shareware authors
- personally, but I know that I do program partially for fun, yes. But
- does enjoying my work mean that I shouldn't get paid for doing it? No,
- I definitely don't make a living from it. But I'm not forcing anybody
- to use it. If you dont' want my program, or don't want to pay me for
- it, then fine. Don't use it.

-
- By your logic, nothing that was easier to write than emacs should cost
- anything- yet I can imagine that there are many programs in the
- commercial software market that were easier to write than emacs but are
- sold for money. Just because somebody else gives away the program they
- wrote doesn't mean that I have to. Admitedly, if I tried to charge for
- a program that soembody else was giving away for free it would be rather
- foolish, but if the programs are diferent, then I don't really think
- that it matters that much. I can understand your feelings, but I think
- that it's reasonable to ask for some money after spending many long
- hours working on a program. The promise of a reward at the end does
- help somewhat too, even if it might not be a very big one.
